Compensations - Sexual offences
Persons who have suffered from sexual offences, whether children or adults, are entitled to compensation from the assailant. The victim is entitled to have a lawyer appointed by the police or the courts as an assistant. The assistant safeguards your interests while the assault is being investigated by the police and subsequently before a court, if the assailant is charged.
The assistant’s fee is paid by the government. In most cases compensation ranges from several hundred thousand to two million krónur. In more serious cases and when an offence leads to permanent damage, higher compensation is awarded.
In most cases the entire amount of compensation is paid by the government through the compensation committee.
