Work Accidents
If you have been injured at work — or on your direct way to or from work — you may be entitled to accident compensation.
All employees in Iceland are covered by statutory workplace accident insurance. This includes both the collective-agreement accident insurance and Icelandic Health Insurance (Sjúkratryggingar Íslands). Your right to compensation under these insurances is not dependent on anyone being at fault for the accident.
If the accident can be traced to circumstances for which the employer or other employees are responsible, you may also be entitled to additional compensation under the Tort Liability Act, paid by the employer's insurance company. In most cases, these payments are significantly higher than those from the basic accident insurance. This applies, for example, if the accident was caused by faulty equipment, insufficient instructions, poor safety measures, or mistakes by co-workers.
It is very important to contact us as soon as possible — acting quickly can make all the difference to your claim.
