Work Accidents

If you have been involved in an accident at work or on your direct way to or from work.

All employees are insured against accidents at work. Compensation rights exist from employee accident insurance, which is a collective agreement-based accident insurance, and from Icelandic Health Insurance. The employee's right to accident compensation from these insurances is independent of whether someone caused the accident through negligence.

If the work accident can be traced to circumstances for which the employer or other employees are responsible, it is also possible to claim compensation based on tort law from the employer's insurance company. In most cases, this results in much higher compensation than from accident insurance. This applies, for example, when a work accident can be traced to equipment failure, inadequate instructions, insufficient directions, or mistakes by colleagues.

It is very important to contact us as soon as possible, as prompt action can be crucial. Compensation from the aforementioned insurances includes:

  • Daily allowances.
  • Compensation for medical disability.

If a work accident is compensable under tort law, employees are also entitled to the following compensation:

  • Expenses related to the accident, such as medical costs, ambulance costs, medication costs, physiotherapy costs, etc.
  • Loss of income. If people become unable to work due to an accident, they are entitled to receive compensation for lost income from the insurance company after the employer's wage obligation ends, until stability is reached.
  • Compensation for suffering.
  • Compensation for permanent injury.
  • Compensation for permanent disability.
  • Legal costs for the most part.
  • Other financial losses.
